"VETERAN'S QUILTS"

The Mothertown Guild’s 2011/2012 Outreach Project is to create a total of 85 quilts for the Veterans Inc.’s Housing Program’s Grove Street shelter. This particular shelter is the only center for veterans, and the largest drug- and alcohol-free shelter, in Central Massachusetts.  The Outreach Committee, Chairperson Andie Ordung, is coordinating this effort.  The Outreach Committee is seeking donations from fellow members and from outside organizations/companies/individuals/quilt shops.

You can donate directly to their 9 shelters on their website. They do have a wishlist that is miles long on their website. Bedding isn't the only thing they need.

If you would like to assist with donations for the quilt project, please contact community@mothertownquilters.com

Outreach would like to thank all of the members of the Mothertown Quilters for their time and for reaching deep into the recesses of their fabric stashes to donate fabric, piecing and machine quilting time and skills. Oh, and let us not forget all the BINDING!

Outside help provided us with the following:
·

Fabric donations! From small bits to huge backings, we thank you for making your donations!

Thread donations! Without your assistance, we would just be ladies with pieces of fabric!

Time donations! Thank you to all who have donated this most precious resource! Discounted Fabric Donations! You stretched our dollars to gigantic proportions! Thank you!

So where are we now? As of our February 14th meeting have completed 28 quilts! We have over 50 quilts in some stage of progress: kits prepared ready to be handed out, quilt tops ready to sandwiched, and sandwiched quilts ready to be quilted or tied. Our completion date and delivery of the quilts to the Veterans Inc.’s Housing Program is Memorial Day for 2012, May 28, 2012.

When we started this project we realized that with such an ambitious goal for a small guild we needed to keep it simple. We chose the Rail Fence pattern which works up quickly and would allow members of all skill levels to join in. But any pattern will work and some members have done others.

While members have been working diligently on their own we have also set up days when we all get together to work. Progress can be phenomenal at these events. Please review some of our work below from a recent event.
